In the Community
Prince Edward Island Credit Unions are locally owned and operated full-service financial institutions that take pride in being part of the community. Credit Unions are part of a strong national/international movement but our commitment begins at home to provide our members with a means of securing their future and making a better way of life through wise use of financial services. Through donations and sponsorships, Credit Unions enable local community groups and organizations to remain active.

Here are just a few of our activities within our communities:

Provincial
Health
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation IWK Telethon The Children's Wish Foundation
Recreation and Youth
4-H Canada Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame Allied Youth Coaches Association of PEI

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation is currently the only source of ongoing funding for equipment for the QEH. Medical equipment is extremely expensive and must be upgraded to meet the demands of technology. Every dollar raised from the 21 Hour Equipment Drive goes to purchase much-needed medical equipment. Each year, through various fundraising activities, PEI Credit Unions raised funds to help this worthy cause.

IWK Telethon
Annually the IWK Grace Health Centre hosts the Telethon for Children throughout the Maritimes. Dollars raised go to priority equipment purchases, the provision of research into childhood disease and illness, and support of special programs like bilingual services, child life services and pastoral care. This year PEI Credit Unions raised $6000.00.

The Children's Wish Foundation
Once again this year, PEI Credit Unions will be the title sponsor for the Credit Union Golf for Wishes tournament held at Mill River Resort.

The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada Prince Edward Island Chapter relies solely on the generosity of people, who through donations and fundraisers, enable the Foundation to continue their work of granting the wishes of Island children between the ages of three and eighteen who have been diagnosed with a high risk, life threatening illness.

The Credit Unions of Prince Edward Island have sponsored the Credit Union Golf for Wishes tournament and have helped with raising over $100,000 for the Foundation.

4-H Canada
Credit Unions over the last number of years have sponsored the Young Speakers for Agriculture competition which gives the Island's top 4-H speakers the opportunity to travel to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair to compete at the national level. Our sponsorship assists in the travel and accommodation costs for the speakers. The 2004 provincial winner was Catherine Colodey of Clyde River. Catherine went on to win nationally at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair where she beat out twenty-seven other participants from nine provinces.
