CUCPEI

In 1938, a federation was formed to unite the thirty-five Credit Unions operating in the province of Prince Edward Island at that time. This Federation was primarily entrusted with the overall growth and stability of Credit Unions in the province.

In 1946 this Federation was incorporated as the Prince Edward Island Credit Union League Limited. Since its inception, the PEI Credit Union League Limited has provided leadership and support to the Provincial System in such areas as Audit & Inspection, Marketing & Product Development, Human Resources, and General Operations. In addition the League represents Credit Union in matters of Legislation and acts as a “Credit Union” for Credit Unions – providing Savings, Investment and lending services to individual Credit Unions.

In 1992 with the introduction of a completely revised Credit Union Act, the Prince Edward Island Credit Union League Limited officially became the Credit Union Central of Prince Edward Island, in keeping with the organization identity being adopted by all other Provincial jurisdictions.

Today the Credit Union Central continues to provide support to Credit Unions in core areas such as Audit & Inspection, Marketing & Product Development, Human Resources, and General Operations with the addition of Commercial and Business lending Support to Credit Unions. Today the provincial System consists of ten individual Credit Unions operating from fifteen office locations and serving in excess of 65,000 member/owners. Assets under direct management exceed 700 million in addition to significant assets held in our partner financial co-operative organizations.
